Materials with special properties are the backbone of 21th century technology. One of the most fascinating properties of crystalline solids is their capability to undergo phase transitions - to substantially change their properties in response to minor perturbations. This behavior, intimately tied to the electron-electron interactions, is notoriously difficult to describe. We develop methods to study interacting electrons and apply them to realistic materials as well as simplified models.
